Sri Lanka Is

the pearl of Indian Ocean. It is the island which 435 km long and 225 km across at its’ widest. It has an area of 65,610 Km² from north to south. Anyone can experience all it delights in quite short time. Sri Lanka became independent from Britain in 1948 and now the population is roughly 20 million including 72% are Sinhalese, 20% are Tamil and 8% are other ethnic/religious groups.

History of Sri Lanka dates back to over 2,500 years and had established trade and cultural links with many ancient civilizations. Throughout history, it has been known by different names as Taprobane, Serendib, Ceylon and etc. Name Sri Lanka stands for "The Resplendent Isle". Sri Lanka enjoys a tropical climate. Annual monsoon rains provide the only seasonal variations that one may experience. Due to its location being closer to the equator, the temperature tends to remain high throughout the year. Colombo average temperature is 27 degrees centigrade and it is accompanied by high levels of humidity. The temperature and climate tends to vary in different parts of the island, based on the landscape.
